Adult Tennis Instruction (Beginner )For beginning players, or those who haven’t played for several years, the City of Edina offers the USTA 1-2-3 program. Tennis balls are provided but bring your own racquet.
Women's Introduction to Handguns and FireArms Safety Training (FAST)The FAST program is designed to provide a hands-on experience in firearms safety for women who are new gun owners or are thinking of purchasing a firearm for personal safety.
Classes will take place over two evenings. On the first night, participants will:
- Learn important safety procedures for handling of pistols and for use of firearms range;
- Familiarize with the different types of pistols, their parts and operation;
- Learn about ammunition and its proper use;
- Be able to load and unload a firearm using “dummy” ammunition.
On the second night, participants will:
- Shoot live ammunition on a twelve lane indoor firing range with the assistance of firearms instructors and range safety officers;
- Practice target shooting and tactical exercises using a police firearms simulator;
- Learn about the care and cleaning of a pistol;
- Be informed of state laws and procedures regarding the purchase and carrying of a hand gun.
Students must attend the first night’s instruction in order to participate in the live ammunition and simulator training on the second night.
This course is open to women over the age of 18. Girls 13-17 years of age may attend with a parent or guardian who is also a participant.
AR&LE Spring programs
Adaptive BasketballDribble, shoot and score with this fun, co-recreation program. Each week we will develop skills before hitting the floor for a game. Stay in shape and learn the game of basketball. Ages 16 and older are welcome to register. Don’t forget to tell us your t-shirt size on the registration form.
Larry Nelson Adaptive Golf League and Advanced Lessons- TRAILThis program is designed for golfers who are independent on the course with little supervision from volunteers. After 2 sessions of skill building we will hit the course. Golfers must be referred to the program. This program uses TRAIL.
Fridays; April 27 to June 22 (no class on May 25) 6:30 p.m. - dark
April 27 and May 4; 6:30 to 7:30 pm at Braemar Golf Dome.
Larry Nelson Adaptive Golf Program- TRAILBeginners will learn about golf etiquette, basic skills and rules with experienced volunteer golfers. Golfers are supported on the course with volunteers based on their needs, ages 10 and older.
Class meets 7:30 pm to dark
April 22 and April 29; 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Braemar Golf Dome
AR&LE Summer programs
Fishing in the NeighborhoodFishing is fun and can happen in your neighborhood! Join us for fishing at Centennial Lakes with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Make fish prints and talk about the best bait for catching fish at Centennial Lake. Learn how to identify common fish you can catch in MN lakes. Fishing poles and bait will be provided. All participants will receive a goodie bag. Ages 7-13 are welcome.
Mini Golf for ASD Teens - All Four GamesGet away from your screen and get outside. Teens with ASD ages 14-21 are invited to join other young adults to play local mini-golf courses and hang out. Teens with the same abilities will be placed on teams together. Participants will meet at the course; an informational letter will be sent.

Theatrical Performance Camp- Play to be determinedAfter viewing the movie, actors will learn lines and songs, as well as create the sets for the exciting performance that is held on the last day of camp. This program is open to ages 13-21. This is an AR&LE class.
Water Aerobics TRAILGet ready for some active aerobic strengthening, stretching, range-of-motion exercises all in the comfort of the Edinborough Park Pool. This program can help boost fitness levels and minimize the impact on your bones/muscles as you exercise. The pool has a chair lift for easy entrance and exit. Ages 16 and up are welcome, group home staff bring more than 2 participants must provide support in the water. This program uses TRAIL.
AR&LE Winter Programs
Super Sundays - Centennial Lakes ParkSkate across 10 acres of ice or take a spin on one of the park's Norwegian ice sleds. Afterwards, we will relax by one of the fireplaces and sip some hot cocoa. Limited skate rental is available for $5.
Super Sundays is a social group for ages 15-25 who like to try new things, explore, and meet friends. For trips outside of the four AR&LE cities, bus transportation is provided to and from the Edina Senior Center.

Super Sundays - Minnesota History CenterJoin us as we travel by bus to this interactive museum with both permanent and changing exhibits. We will take a close up look at how interesting Minnesota is through its artifacts, objects, photographs and more.

Spring Programs
Firearm Safety TrainingThe Edina Park and Recreation Department offers the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Firearm Safety Training to youth ages 11 and older. Parents of students are encouraged to observe the class.
Princess Belle's Tea for Two Ages 3-7You are invited to a special tea party with Once Upon A Star’s Princess Belle! Bring your favorite adult and dress FANCY. Learn manners and how to pour from a teapot at this magical event! Couples will enjoy a story time, share a snack, pour juice from a teapot and dance with Belle. Bring your camera for a special photo with Princess Belle!!
Summer Youth Programs
Cheerleading Camp - All New! Ages 5-12This popular camp taught by Edina High School coaches and cheerleaders has been re-structured in order to provide expanded opportunities for both girls and boys. Returning cheerleaders will pick up where they left off last summer and be challenged to learn stunts, cheers, and dances with a greater degree of difficulty. New participants will be introduced to cheer aerobics, jumps, motion techniques, dances and cheers. Everyone will receive a t-shirt and set of pom poms for their performance on the last day of camp, and participate in the Edina 4th of July parade.
Fab 4 & 5The essential pre-playground program! Each week features a new adventure filled theme with crafts, stories, songs and other age appropriate activities. Staff to participant ratio is 1 playground leader to every 6 participants in order to foster a welcoming, safe environment for your child.
Highlands ExplorersThis summer we have opened up Explorers to 6 and 7 year olds (previously 8-10 years only)! This park offers a blend of active sports, games, and nature exploration, i.e. bug catching and hiking. A weekly visit from the art specialist, plus special visitors will round out this unique program.
Kid n' Play CampCamp is back for ages 2 ½ - 5. We’ve teamed up with Reach Education Solutions to offer this popular camp again. Campers interact through sporting games, musical activities, playground time and more. Parents do not stay for camp.
Mini HawksThis multi-sport program gives young children ages 4 to 7 a positive first step into athletics. Baseball, basketball and soccer are taught in a safe, structured environment with lots of encouragement and a big focus on fun. Our Mini-hawk games and activities were designed to allow campers to explore balance, movement, hand/eye coordination and skill development at their own pace. Skyhawk’s staff is trained to handle the specific needs of these young athletes. All participants receive a t-shirt and a merit award. The participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 8:1. Participants should bring appropriate clothing, two snacks, a water bottle, running shoes and sunscreen.
Multi Sports-NEWMulti-Sport - Flag Football, Soccer and Baseball for ages 7 to 12 year olds
Our multi-sport camp is designed to introduce young athletes to a variety of different sports in one setting. For this program we combine flag football, soccer and baseball into one fun-filled week. Athletes will learn the rules and essentials of each sport through skill-based games and scrimmages. By the end of the week, your child will walk away with knowledge of three new sports along with vital life lessons such as respect, teamwork, and self-discipline. All participants receive a T-shirt and a merit award .The participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 12:1. Participants should bring appropriate clothing, two snacks and a water bottle, running shoes, a baseball glove and sunscreen.
Playground Extra - All New (without pool pass)Does an extra few days of playground at a fresh location sound like fun for your 6-10 year old? If so, this is your program. Led by our summer playground staff, participants will continue with their favorite activities and games, but will have a chance to try some new things as well, i.e. sand volleyball, disc golf and fishing. Sign up for 1, 2, 3 or all 4 days.

Playground ProgramThe goal of the Edina Playground program is to offer supervised and structured outdoor activities that focus on fun, physical fitness and socialization. We offer a variety of themed activities to keep kids physically active and creative, including a weekly visit from Edina’s Craft Specialist. To be eligible children must have completed kindergarten. Staff to participant ratio is 1 playground leader to every 10 participants.
Edina is a do.town; this year’s overall theme is "do.playgrounds in two thousand one- two."
Playground Pros - Ages 9 to 11Imagine playgrounds taken to the next level! Age appropriate favorites, plus more sports, tournaments, challenges, special visitors and science projects led by enthusiastic leaders. Something for everyone and no "kiddie games."
Safety CampYouth entering 4th grade, don’t miss out on Edina’s Safety Camp - you get one chance to come since camp is ONLY for youth entering fourth grade. Find out that safety is fun through interactive sessions on a variety of topics! Campers will learn about fire, personal, water, electric, internet, animal safety and more. Each camper will receive a T-shirt, snack and a pizza lunch. The Edina Police, Fire and Park and Recreation departments are pleased to sponsor this event.
Skyhawks Basketball- 7-12 year oldsThis fun, skill-intensive program is designed for 7 to 12 year olds with the beginner to intermediate player in mind. Using our progression curriculum and focusing on the whole player, we teach your child the skills they need both on and off the court to be a better athlete. Through drills and games we make it an unforgettable camp experience for your son or daughter. All participants receive a t-shirt and a merit award. The participant-to-coach ratio is approximately 10:1. Participants should bring appropriate clothing, two snacks, a water bottle, gym shoes and sunscreen.
Skyhawks SoccerThis is a fun skills program for youth ages 4 to 7. Drills and games will make this camp fun for all boys and girls. A participant will receive a T-shirt and a merit award. Participants should wear appropriate clothing and bring a water bottle and a snack.
Small WondersYouth entering kindergarten or 1st grade -
Three Rivers Park District staff has designed a special camp for Edina kids with a new adventure each day. Camping skills, Birds and Animals, Native American Games, and Fishing will be taught through hands-on activities, fun games and crafts. Maximum: 25 participants
Super 6 & 7This program is nearly identical to our other playground program, with the exception of a more focused age group, and a higher staff to participant ratio. Kids will enjoy weekly themes, group games, creative crafts (weekly visit from our craft specialist), and other age appropriate activities in a fun and structured environment. Staff to participant ratio is 1 playground leader to every 8 participants in order to foster a welcoming, safe environment for your child.
Travelin' TeensFor active middle schoolers who like a mix of fun and adventure, this one is for you! Participants will travel by bus to different places each day, supervised by energetic leaders. Swimming at a beach, learning a new outdoor skill at a nature center, mini-golfing and more! Trip information will be sent before the program starts.
Weber Creators - New! Ages 6-10Finally, a playground program designed for those arts and crafts enthusiasts. Each day will still include active sports and games, but more time will be dedicated for participants to create a variety of individual and group projects, fun usable crafts (no dust collectors!) and even a summer long art activity.
Tennis Programs
Adult- Tennis Drill and Play session- NEWWhether you are looking for a quick tennis tip to fix your forehand or just want to play some tennis, this is for you. Drill sessions allow you to hone and sharpen your tennis skills in a fun, exciting group setting. Improve your coordination, learn new techniques to improve your stamina; these are just a few of the things you can expect to come away with when you take part in our Drill and Play sessions.
Adult Tennis Instruction (Intermediate)Intermediate lessons are for adults who have some tennis experience but want to raise their level of play. On-court instruction includes attention to specific strokes, fast-paces drills, singles and doubles play and friendly competition. The program provides an opportunity for participants to improve their game and meet other players. Tennis balls are provided but bring your own racquet.
Tennis Camp - 2012The City of Edina offers a week-long tennis camp for beginner- and intermediate-level players ages 8-13.
USTA Team Tennis LeagueBoys and girls ages 11-14 have an opportunity for competitive team play. The league is for players with tournament experience and those who wish to gain experience. All participants should be familiar with the basics of the game, including scoring. Practices are on Monday and Wednesday afternoons and matches are generally on Tuesday afternoons. Parents or guardians need to provide transportation to away matches in nearby communities. Practices begin June 11 and the season concludes with a statewide tournament the 3rd week of July.
Youth Tennis Instruction (Advanced Intermediate)Advanced Intermediate lessons are for students who have a mental and physical grasp of tennis fundamentals. Intermediate lessons are for ages 9 and up. Students need to bring their own tennis racquets. Tennis balls are provided.
Youth Tennis Instruction (Beginner ages 7 and up)Beginner lessons teach students the basics of tennis, including ground strokes, service, net game and scoring from certified professional instructors. Beginner lessons are for ages 7 and up. Students need to bring their own tennis racquets. Tennis balls are provided.
Youth Tennis Instruction (Intermediate)Intermediate lessons focus on improving basic skills learned at the beginner level from certified professional instructors. Intermediate Lessons are for ages 8 and up. Students need to bring their own tennis racquets. Tennis balls are provided.
Youth Tennis Instruction (Pee Wee)Pee Wees offers a fun filled introduction to tennis for 5 to 7 years olds from certified professional instructors. The City of Edina will provide rackets to Pee Wee-level players. Tennis balls are provided.
