The City of Edina’s Park and Recreation
Department encourages residents to take part in Earth Day and Arbor Day
activities.
Arbor Day was celebrated in Minnesota on
Friday, April 25. To commemorate this important day, the City of Edina
planted a Dutch Elm-resistant Elm tree at Weber Park. The tree was planted in the children's playground area on the north side of the
Montessori school at the corner of Grimes Avenue and West 42nd Street.
“Tree planting and proper care of trees are
vitally important aspects of environmental stewardship locally and
globally,” said City Forester Tom Horwath. “Trees provide for us not only aesthetic
benefits, but also necessary environmental functions and important
resources. Arbor Day is a special day to
be thankful for all trees and all that they have to offer for us,
beginning with the air we breathe.”
